Upside Down Dinner at the Manila Marriott Hotel!
Located at the Ground level of Marriot Manila Main, Cru Steakhouse opens at 6:00 p.m from Monday-Saturday and is open at 11:30 a.m. on Sundays.
Cru Steakhouse exudes a fine-dining atmosphere that is very intimate. With warm, dimmed lights and wine cellars on display.
The people behind the kitchen counter, ready to serve their guests some great-tasting food.
‘Upside Down Dinner’ got us thinking as we made our way to Cru. Like what are the possible gimmicks to make one’s dinner upside down? Then, when we were seated at our table, we were surprised to see untidy table napkins and cutleries all over the table. Then it hit us, upside down meaning we start from the end.
Messy table, then receiving a token from the wait staff confirmed that, yes, we were in for a dinner that starts from the end.
And of course, the ‘bill’ was handed to us even before starting our meal. That made us more excited!
The menu was written backward, too! And it had a mirror to go with it so that guests will be able to read it. Fun, right?!
Noisette Exotique (hazelnut dacquoise, almond lemon crumble, praline-noisette mousse, yuzu cremeux, orange passion compote, yellow exotic glacage)
Ahhh! Dessert comes first! A spoonful of this delectable dessert made us want to finish the whole thing right away! A symphony of flavors all in one bite. A mixture of sweet, citrus and chocolaty flavors with the tartness from the fresh berries. It was worth the calorie intake!
Rosemary Crusted U.S. Angus Beef Tenderloin (potato puree, brown butter glazed vegetables, pink peppercorn sauce)
We are big meat-eaters! And steak is one of our favorites. The cook on the Angus beef tenderloin was perfect! The rosemary crust gave it more texture and the brown butter glazed vegetables were sweet and fresh. Dessert then a steak main course can really stuff one’s tummy. Haha!
Tomato Espresso (with gruyere pudding toast)
Good thing it took some time before the third course was served. At least we had time to make space for the coming courses. Haha. This tomato espresso was genius, a great play on the classic grilled cheese and tomato soup but small and more refined. A shot of tomato espresso paired with moist and fluffy gruyere pudding toast was perfect after devouring a piece of steak!
Crab and Apple Salad (cherry tomato glaze, pine nut gremolata, avocado mousseline creme fraiche)
And so we ended our meal with an appetizer. Interesting, huh?! We had crab and apple salad as our last course. We found it creative that a cherry tomato glaze was used to envelop a dollop of crab and apple salad to mimic the shape of a cherry tomato. We just easily popped the whole piece of this creamy and fresh with chunky crab meat inside our mouths. We definitely ended our meal with a happy heart and a full tummy.
