It has been almost two years since Alegria Cozinha Moderna & Sangria Bar opened. Almost two years of amazing modern Latin eats and sangria for the ever so hungry and thirsty BGC crowd. Almost two years have passed and Alegria is still one of the go-to restaurants in BGC! What have they been doing right? Is there a secret ingredient in Alegria’s success? Well, in our opinion, one major ingredient to their success is their very own chef, Chef Charles Montañez! The young, quirky, and really creative chef behind Alegria’s modern Latin dishes. And now, he has something new to offer! In this edition of EATSplorations, we will be sharing about the lineup of New Dishes at Alegria Cozinha Moderna & Sangria Bar that will surely excite old and new patrons! To find out what these new dishes are, keep on reading!
New Dishes at Alegria Cozinha Moderna & Sangria Bar!
It’s great to see Alegria once again after a long time. It’s also good to know that they are doing so well in the ever-competitive area of BGC. In case it’s your first time to encounter Alegria, it is located on the top floor of the Uniqlo building in Bonifacio High Street.
No Alegria EATSperience will ever be complete without a photo of this lovely mural! Make sure to snap one when you dine here to show everyone that you were here, hehe.
You might want to start things off with Alegria’s natural fruit-based Sangria selection! After ordering a couple of drinks, it’s time to check out the new dishes at Alegria! We sure hope you’re hungry because they have a lot of new and exciting dishes for you to try.
Pescado (Php 165)
Started our EATSperience off with this beautiful house-made Tortilla Frijol Fish Taco! Flaky fish on top of crunchy cabbage, sweet corn, and tangy pineapple with a pasilla chili relish and topped off with squid ink tapioca. This thing of beauty has great balance of flavors in every bite! It was flat out amazing. Definitely, a great way to start off our return to Alegria!
Aguachile de Camaron (Php 265)
After the awesome Pescado, here’s a lovely plate of Corn Infladas (fried corn tortilla shells) with Shrimp, Lime, Chile Water, Mango Chutney, Charred Pineapple, and Corn. These Infladas may be small in size but it is BIG in flavor! Sweet, smoky, and a little spicy in one mouthful. Do yourself a favor, eat it all in one bite to EATSperience its awesomeness. Don’t forget to thank us later, hehe!
Feijoada (Php 395)
The national dish of Brazil! A plate of Black Bean Stew with Farofa (cassava and cornflour mixture) and Grilled Thick-cut Bacon. We know this dish from The Final Table on Netflix but have never tried it until this EATSperience. It was probably the surprise of the night as the black bean stew was really really tasty. It just has comfort in every bite and the grilled bacon and smoky farofa just helped elevate the whole EATSperience. It’s a humble dish with so much to offer. Well done, Chef Charles!
Friacasé Ecuadoria
Chicken Stew in Hoja Aguacate (avocado leaf), beer, and cocoa! Yup, this dish actually has chocolate and beer, hehe. Did we like it? Hmmm… We loved it! This was one surprisingly tasty and really filling dish. Chef Charles has come up with another winner. The chicken was perfectly cooked, the sauce was out of this world amazing, and it’s just priced around 300 plus if we’re not mistaken. Please, please, please order this one! You won’t regret it.
Carne del Gaucho (Php 1,865)
500gr USDA Prime Grade Rib Eye Steak served with Corn and Zucchini Asada, Garlic Confit, Chimichurri, and Pasilla Barbecue Sauce! This beautiful plate of steak for only Php 1,865?! Totally worth it! The Rib Eye was cooked to perfection. Super tender and juicy! The Pasilla Barbecue Sauce was spot on, too. If you ever want to have a high-quality steak at an affordable price, this is the one for you!
Cayo (Php 205)
Cayo literally means “It fell,” that’s why this dessert looks like it fell from up above. Alegria’s Cayo dessert has Avocado Ice Cream (by St. Louis Cafe), Cajeta Cone, Muscovado Crumble, and Kiwi. It’s a great play on different levels of crunch and sweetness. The ice cream itself was pretty smooth and really tasted like avocado.
The New Dishes at Alegria Cozinha Moderna & Sangria Bar were all amazing! We loved ’em all. The creativity and passion of Chef Charles can truly be tasted and felt in all the dishes that we tried. It was fun seeing him work his food magic once again and we can’t wait to EATSperience Alegria’s amazing food again really soon. If you are looking for something new to EATSperience around BGC, make sure to check out Alegria! You will surely love it. That’s it for this edition of EATSplorations, until next time!
