To those of you who are not yet familiar with what dim sum is, here’s a bit of a background information about it: “Dim sum is a popularly known authentic Cantonese dish prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates. It is also a tradition for the elderly to gather to eat dim sum after morning exercises.” Well, as you just read, it’s a tradition to have dim sum in the morning but for us and maybe for a great number of people, dim sum is for any meal of the day, right? This EATSperience of ours is another first for EATSplorations. Yes, it’s our first time to ever set foot in Shangri-La at the Fort and also our first EATSperience at their Chinese fine-dining restaurant, Canton Road. In this edition of EATSplorations, we will be sharing with you the new dishes that Canton Road will be launching for this month of April. Every 3-4 months, Canton Road takes a look at their menu to see which ones perform the best and which ones need to take a little break or have an improvement. [NEW] Ping Pong Diplomacy – SM Aura

Ping Pong Diplomacy is one of the newest restaurants in town. It just opened last week at the 3rd level of SM Aura in BGC. Ping Pong Diplomacy is a modern take on Chinese cuisine with an American twist. This one of a kind restaurant is the brainchild of Charlie Paw, the man behind Lowbrow Casual Restaurants and Tasteless Food Group, and a group of young and talented chefs like Him Uy De Baron, Noel Mauricio, Miko Aspiras, and Kristine Lotilla. Before we proceed to the tasting part, let’s talk about where Ping Pong Diplomacy got its name. The phrase “Ping Pong Diplomacy” might sound very familiar to most of you who know a thing or two about the Cold War. It refers to the time when China and the United States tried to ease the tension between them through Ping Pong during the time of President Nixon.
