When we arrived, the restaurant had bustling servers and the kitchen staff were busy doing their thing. The place was packed with diners of all ages. Some maybe first-timers and some probably like us, patrons of Bad Bird since its Hole-in-the-Wall beginnings.

The interior was dominantly designed with hues of black and gray. And the walls had interesting paintings. With the area that they have, the space was really maximized. Which is a good thing because it means, there is more room for people who would like to dine at Bad Bird.

Time to talk about the EATS! This spread right here, is what made us really full.

Small Plates, 3 for 180…

Scallion Pancakes

Eggplant Agedashi
We only had 2 starters to leave room for the spread that was prepared for us. We loved how Asian flavors were evident in these 2 starters. The scallion pancakes had a combination of sweet and savory flavors. As for the eggplant agedashi, we are used to having agedashi tofu and Bad Bird did an innovative take on this Japanese appetizer. The eggplant was crispy and it absorbed the broth really well.

Bites…

Hush Puppies

BB Corn
4 for Php 190
Hush puppies were loved by all three of us! Yes, Baby Eats loved it too! It was moist on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Its sweetness was just right to complement the flavor of the chicken. BB Corn has always been a favorite of Mr. Eats. Sweet, salty and spicy flavors covered the kernels. We had the kernels shredded to give us an easier time munching on it.

Prawndog
(deep-fried battered corn with bonito flakes, katsuoboshi, nori, and Japanese mayo)
Php 260 1 stick / Php 490 2 sticks
It was our first time to try a prawn dog, and we would like to have it again. 1 stick was really filling because the prawns were covered with a thick batter. Crispy on the outside, moist and soft on the inside. The bonito flakes, nori and Japanese mayo complemented the sweetness from the prawns. If you like the usual corn dog you are used to, to have a twist, try this!

From the Grill…

Spiced Lamb
Php 350
Talk about grilled food! 4 different dishes grilled to perfection. The pepper steak, pork belly and bacon-cut short rib have 2 different sauces for each, to go with the grilled meat. As for the spiced lamb, it does not need any sauce because it has a strong flavor already. All meat were tender and juicy. The sauces were, hot steak sauce, black pepper sauce, ginger, chimichurri and mustard bbq. Our favorites were mustard bbq and ginger.

Umami Fried Chicken…

Fried Chicken + Hush Puppies
Php 690 4pcs / Php 980 6pcs
Bad Bird’s umami fried chicken has always been one of our fried chicken favorites. And yes, being the 5th taste as how it is known by many, this fried chicken is really tasty and flavorful. Big, juicy and tender chicken, fried to a perfect crisp. Another thing that we love about this chicken is, the batter is not that thick. It can now be enjoyed by friends and family who would like to have a platter of fried chicken with hush puppies.

Dessert…

Mango-Dragonfruit Swirl
Php 150 per scoop
Fruity ice cream flavors always gives that refreshing scoop of ice cream to balance our palate. The texture of this mango-dragonfruit swirl is more of like a sorbet. Another dessert that was served to us was a molten cheesecake dip with rice crackers. After having a spoonful of the mango-dragonfruit swirl, our taste buds were ready for a rich dessert. The molten cheesecake was heavenly! Creamy and rich with sweet and crispy crackers! Best eaten while it is still hot!

Baby Eats says “Aprub!”
Baby Eats definitely enjoyed her dining EATSperience at Bad Bird. This was a different EATsperience for us because we did not just order our all-time favorite umami fried chicken but, we were also able to try out new dishes that were equally tasty and exciting. Did we like it? A big YES! We enjoyed devouring the flavorful appetizers, tender and perfectly seasoned grilled meat, well crafted desserts, and of course, the crispy and juicy umami fried chicken. That’s it for this edition of EATSplorations! Till next time!
