Just over a week ago, I went to Malaysia with friends for the very first time. It was a short 3 days and 2 nights trip that was mostly about Kuala Lumpur’s amazing mix of Malay and Chinese food. In this edition of EATSplorations, I will be sharing with you about one famous restaurant in the bustling food and shopping district of Bukit Bintang, Restoran Wong Ah Wah in Jalan Alor. Wong Ah Wah, or WAW in short, is a Chinese restaurant that’s famous for their roasted chicken wings among many other tasty dishes. Well, my friends I initially looked for Wong Ah Wah just for the chicken wings but ended up ordering a feast for four. Join me, as I look back on this one of a kind EATSperience that I had at Restoran Wong Ah Wah, enjoy!
Jalan Alor is filled with all sorts of street food stalls, fruit vendors, and restaurants. Please try not to eat everything that you see while you are walking down Jalan Alor because Restoran Wong Ah Wah is at the end of the road. You will never miss it because it’s filled with locals and tourists who are devouring one delicious dish after another. TIP: The street-side dining area is always packed so it’s better to ask one of their servers in red to get you a table inside where you can have a more comfortable EATSperience.
The Chicken Satay was amazing! Perfectly grilled tender chicken fillet with a touch of sweetness and heat. I didn’t even bother to dip it in the peanut sauce because it was already very good on its own.
Of course, some veggies for a healthy body! Haha, who am I fooling, right? The humble kangkung was cooked beautifully with lots of garlic which made it pretty tasty.
This one was a hit in my list because of the super fragrant curry leaves! It also reminded me of how cereal prawns tastes like. No one ever goes wrong with thin and tender slices of pork with a sweet and spicy sauce.
My Singaporean friends might hate me for eating Malaysian Hokkien Mee once again, haha! I really love the Malaysian version more, maybe because it looks more sinful or maybe because the combination of flavors and ingredients are just right? I can’t really figure it out but I LOVE IT! My friends enjoyed it, too!
I am fond of the local clams that we usually have in the Philippines but this one was equally sweet and juicy. The pepper sauce just added a little bit of spice to the already tasty clams.
I love love love Wong Ah Wah’s Salted Fish Fried Rice! Extremely flavorful because of the huge and crispy chunks of salted fish. Every spoonful was like a party of amazing flavors and textures!
I can still taste Wong Ah Wah’s Roasted Chicken Wings until now! I would fly to Kuala Lumpur over and over again just for these beautiful wings. Super juicy and fragrant wings! It tasted like the a whole plate of Chinese cold cuts in the form of chicken wings. Never ever miss having this when you visit Kuala Lumpur!
My friends and I had a great time at Restoran Wong Ah Wah. We loved Wong Ah Wah’s authentic food and atmosphere. I am sorry for not being able to take down the prices, guys. I guess I was so excited to eat, hehe! Thanks to the great-tasting food at Wong Ah Wah and to the awesome company that I had, this EATSperience was so much fun!
