Hello everyone! January just ended and it’s now time to welcome the month of February. Yes, just like that, we are already in the second month of the year. We hope all of you had a good January and are all looking forward to an even better February. In this edition of EATSplorations, we will be sharing with you an EATSperience at an eatery in the Katipunan area of Quezon City. This EATSperience is about Halal Kabab Express located just across Ateneo de Manila University at Park 9 Alley. Halal Kabab Express specializes in Middle Eastern cuisine, so expect numerous dishes that feature grilled beef and chicken with Persian or Basmati Rice. We have been looking forward to dining at Halal Kabab Express because we were really starving that day. Also, we have heard great things about it from friends and it is also considered as one of the bestselling stalls at The Yard at Xavierville. Before we get all carried away, let’s begin our Halal Kabab Express EATSperience! Here it goes, enjoy!

We easily found Halal Kabab Express. It is located just behind Regis Center in Katipunan. Once we saw their logo, we knew that we were at the right place! If you are worried about parking, there’s parking just across Halal Kabab Express. You may also park at Regis Center if there’s none left.

A quick look inside Halal Kabab Express!

There are two dining areas inside Halal Kabab Express. The first is an open air area right when you enter and it is where you can see the action from their open kitchen. From there, you can get a good view of their grill which was even imported from Iran. The second is an indoor dining area which is air-conditioned and it can accommodate more diners.

“The Grill”
When we were at Halal Kabab Express, we met the mother and daughter tandem behind the successful Middle Eastern eatery. They were very hospitable and we enjoyed listening to their stories about how their eatery came about. We got even even more excited to eat when we learned that they use their own recipes from Iran (talk about an authentic EATSperience, right?) and just polished it a bit to suit the taste of Filipino diners.

Time to EAT!

Grilled Morgh Kubideh Wrap
(chicken kabab, tomato, onion, whole grain pita)
Php 99
This wrap looked and tasted really healthy without being boring. It was filled with lots of flavor from the spices of the kabab and other ingredients like onions, tomatoes, beans and fried potatoes. If you are in between eating healthy and indulging, you will love this one!

Chelo Kabab Kubideh
(beef kabab, grilled tomatoes, and Persian rice)
Php 179
One huge plate of fragrant Persian rice and Kabab! Yes, this is indeed the real thing. Super moist and tender grilled beef with lots of flavorful spices. We even forgot to pour some of their signature yogurt garlic sauce because it was so good even without it. But when we poured some of the sauce, it tasted even better. For 179 pesos, this plate can probably feed two to three. Perfect for hungry college kids!

Chicken Biryani with Basmati Rice
(Middle Eastern spiced baked Basmati rice with chicken saffron and shirazi salad topping)
Php 249
Another huge plate of goodness by Halal Kabab Express! For only 249 pesos, we got this three good cuts of grilled chicken and a mountain of the super fragrant Basmati rice. It was a very good deal, right? The chicken was grilled to perfection and it tasted fantastic too. We thought it would be a bit under cooked because it was grilled in high heat for a short period of time. But no, it wasn’t, it was cooked evenly and the skin was crispy! Guess that’s the reason why the grill from Iran was brought here.

Refreshments

Rose Water
Php 70

Lassi
(yogurt drink)
Php 70
Although we are not big fans of Rose Water and Lassi, both were pretty good in quenching our thirst. Both drinks were refreshing too! Perfect after chowing down food with lots of spices. If we were to choose one to have again, we would gladly order the Lassi because it tasted more familiar and it wasn’t not too sweet.

We had a great time trying out Halal Kabab Express for the first time! It was really refreshing for us trying out Middle Eastern food this time. We hope to have more of it more often. All the food that we tried in this EATSperience were all tasty but what stood out was the Chicken Biryani with Basmati Rice. It was really really filling, delicious, and worth every peso. We will surely order it again when we return. If you want to try out Halal Kabab Express, they have branches at The Yard at Xavierville and The Yard Underground in Pasig. That’s it for this edition of EATSplorations! Till next time!
