Marita later pursued further studies, graduating a few years later as a pastry chef from the Northwest Culinary Academy in Vancouver, Canada. Since then, the company expanded and catered to debuts, birthdays, and other celebrations. Due to the pandemic, Hearts and Bells recently offered cakes to enjoy at home, particularly their Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake, and most recently, Ube Cloud Cake. While the chocolate cake is practically ubiquitous nowadays, Hearts and Bells’ version has unique aspects that make it stand out of the crowd. For one, this chocolate cake recipe has been around for 23 years, so Hearts and Bells definitely knows what they’re doing. There is a delicious coffee filling between the moist chocolate layers that gives it that extra oomph, and the decadent chocolate ganache frosting elevates it to another level. Finally, the generous amount of juicy strawberries, blueberries, and grapes provides a refreshing contrast.

On the other hand, Hearts and Bells’ Ube Cloud Cake is the result of art meeting dessert. A beautiful purple ombre flower wreath adorns the top of the cake, and the ube halaya frosting is a delicate shade of lilac. It almost feels like a crime to slice into, but slice you must – inside is a moist ube sponge, with generous layers of ube halaya and ube halaya frosting. With ube’s popularity on the rise these days, this cake will definitely be a mainstay. Hearts and Bells also has plans to release new cakes over the next few months, stay tuned for announcements on their Facebook and Instagram pages!
