Chinese food has always been one of our favorites! It’s one of three cuisines that we always look forward to having whenever we decide to eat out. Because of that, we already have our own go-to Chinese restaurants in mind like North Park, Mann Hann, Luk Yuen, Le Ching, Wai Ying, and so much more. However, there are still so much more here in Metro Manila that we haven’t even tried yet. That’s why in this edition of EATSplorations, we will be sharing our first-ever EATSperience of Chinese Food at DaTang in Venice Grand Canal Mall! We’ve just been passing by DaTang before because it kind of looks intimidating and expensive because of its elegant Chinese look. Good thing last week, we were finally given the chance to try it out. Keep on reading to find out if DaTang is worth trying or not!

DaTang in Venice Grand Canal Mall – McKinley Hill!

DaTang is located at the Ground Floor of Venice Grand Canal Mall in McKinley Hill, Taguig. It looks very elegant and classic from the outside but don’t get intimidated by its looks because you can find some authentic and affordable Chinese food inside. In short, don’t be like us, hehe!

This huge bar welcomes DaTang’s diners. We don’t know what the sign says but it kind of makes the place looks more legit.

Red lanterns all over DaTang’s high ceiling and its walls with gigantic murals. The place looks very family-friendly and can accommodate around 100-120 diners at the same time, if we’re not mistaken. The kitchen can also be seen when you go further in the restaurant.

DaTang caters to a lot of Chinese diners who work and live around McKinley Hill. That’s why they have a couple of Chinese speaking hostesses so that they can properly converse with their Chinese patrons. Don’t worry, they have Filipino servers who speak both English and Filipino.

Since it was our first time, we tried dishes that we were already familiar with. Of course, dumplings, a veggie dish, fried rice, and sweet and sour pork. We wanted to order a couple of bestsellers but since we went after a huge Chinese New Year crowd, those items that we wanted to try were not available.

Xia Long Bao (Php 165 / 6pcs)

First surprise of this EATSperience, DaTang’s delicious Xiao Long Bao! A lot of you may have the patience to line up for some of the more famous XLBs in town but you may have a change of heart if you try DaTang’s version of Xiao Long Bao. This one’s probably one of the best that we’ve ever had. Really light, flavorful, filling, and a little bit cheaper, too!

Pork and Leek Dumplings (Php 260 / approximately 15pcs)

THE BEST DUMPLINGS EVER! Yes, these dumplings from DaTang are really really good. In our honest opinion, they’re THE BEST. Super tasty, small packets of pork and leek in a sturdy yet light dumpling wrapper. The sauce was also AMAZING! Garlicky and spicy. Just the perfect complement for their dumplings of perfection. Well done, DaTang!

Watercress (Php 185)

A single veggie dish won’t hurt, right? A crunchy, stringy and leafy vegetable dish with just a little bit of garlic and seasoning. We enjoyed how crunchy and perfectly cooked this dish was. If you want something healthy and tasty at the same time, try out DaTang’s Watercress dish! You will surely love it!

Shrimp and Egg Fried Rice (Php 220)

This won’t be a Chinese food EATSperience without us ordering a plate of fried rice! DaTang’s Shrimp and Egg Fried Rice was good. It had lots of shrimp and it was really fragrant. All 3 of us enjoyed eating this one, together with all the dishes that we ordered. Definitely coming back for this and we will try out the other dishes that they have, too!

Sweet and Sour Pork (Php 280)

This one was another surprise from DaTang! We love Sweet and Sour Pork but never expected to love it even more because of DaTang’s Pork Cutlet version of it. We expected it to be the usual sweet and sour with lots of fried pork fillets. However, DaTang’s version was a little bit more interesting because they used a HUGE Pork Cutlet showered with so much sweet and sour sauce. We seemed to enjoy it even more because it looked bigger than usual and their sweet and sour sauce was really superb. Definitely having this again!

We honestly found a new go to Chinese restaurant. Good thing Mrs. Eats works nearby, hence, we will definitely frequent DaTang. Especially now that we have tried their quality and really tasty dishes. All three of us enjoyed every dish and we indeed ate a whole lot. EATS Family approved! If you are like us who love Chinese food, try out DaTang at Venice Grand Canal Mall and enjoy the authenticity of their dishes. That’s it for this edition of EATSplorations, ’till next time!
