The Great Eatscape Tuan Tuan Chinese Brasserie SM Aura

We are going down the wire with our Great Eatscape EATSperience in SM Aura Premier with ForkSpoonManila. So far, we have tasted three very different restaurants and now it’s time to share our EATSperience at Tuan Tuan Chinese Brasserie also in SM Aura’s 5th floor, also known as the Sky Park. Yes, finally, Chinese food! We are huge fans of Chinese food because its dishes may not look well-plated or may not have finesse but it’s definitely full of flavor. When it comes to food, nothing is more important than flavor, right? In Tuan Tuan though, good food is combined with a classy restaurant interior that would take you to a few decades back. We won’t keep you waiting anymore so here goes our Tuan Tuan EATSperience at The Great Eatscape in SM Aura Premier, enjoy!

At a first glance, Tuan Tuan may look a bit intimidating to ordinary diners because of its elegant, well-lit interior. However, when you take a look at their menu (the one that looks like a newspaper), you will be surprised that none of their dishes are priced over 548 pesos. Everything in their menu looks reasonably priced for the quality of food and drinks that they provide.

Crispy Molten Custard Snow Buns

Mr. Eats: Buns, buns and more buns! My first Tuan Tuan EATSperience couldn’t have started on a much better note. Three very different buns but extremely tasty in their own right. The Pork Buns were as good as advertised. Barbecued pork inside a sweet and crispy bun is simply yum! The Minced Duck Buns were good but I would still order the Pork Buns over it. The Molten Custard buns were a thing of beauty! Food porn at its finest. Lovely sweet salted egg custard! Perfect for the crispy bun. I have no other words to describe it. Hands down delish!

Mrs. Eats: I might biased when I talk about these 3 different duns that we have tried. Because I am a huge fan of salted egg custard. And yes, among the 3 my favorite of course was the salted egg custard bun. The sweetness level was just right for me and I loved how creamy the custard was. Plus the soft buns made it more delectable. The pork and duck buns were good too. However, I enjoyed the pork buns more than the duck. I already know where my husband should take me when I crave for good, delicious buns! Especially when I crave for salted egg custard buns!

Pan Fried White Turnip Cake in XO Sauce

Mr. Eats: I am not exaggerating but this is THE BEST TURNIP or RADISH CAKE that I have ever had. It might be really hard to top Tuan Tuan’s Pan Fried White Turnip Cake. If you find anything more delicious than this, please tell me. The Turnip Cake was pan fried to perfection and the spicy XO Sauce was the cherry on top. Even though I was already full, I just had to have a few more before giving up. Hands down the best in this EATSperience!

Mrs. Eats: Pan fried radish cake is one of my favorite dimsum treat. And Tuan Tuan gave me a different EATSperience to my usual radish cake. Tuan Tuan served it in cubes and was pan fried with XO sauce that made it even better. Excited as I was, I took a piece and had a bite right when it was placed on our table. Caution: HOT! Make sure to let it sit on your plate for a few minutes first before indulging. This is a must-try!

US Premium Beef Rib Curry

Mr. Eats: This dish tasted like the curry I would have growing up. Just the right level of spice and flavor. However, I would usually have chicken instead of this melt in your mouth US Premium Beef Rib. This is one amazing comfort food. Perfect for rainy day and with heaps of rice.

Mrs. Eats: The US Premium Beef Rib was tender and it absorbed the curry well. The curry was creamy and flavorful and the spice level was just right for me. A bowl of hot rice is really good with this dish.

Laksa with Fish Balls and Sliced Cuttlefish

Mr. Eats: This bowl of Laksa took me to Singapore and back! Really hearty and heavenly broth. I enjoyed every slurp out of this. The combination of sweet and spicy flavors was just too good to ignore.

Mrs. Eats: Having been able to live in Singapore, I have come to love Laksa. And Tuan Tuan’s Laksa made me miss my hawker eats. Good balance of flavors from the spicy curry and the coconut milk.

Original Fish Soup with Pork Charsiu and Fresh Button Mushroom

Mr. Eats: This is all about the broth! I don’t know how long it took them to make the broth but surely it took them a lot of effort in making something as simple yet as tasty as this Original Fish Soup. The noodles, Pork Charsiu and Fresh Button Mushroom were just added to complete the EATSperience. If I came in with an empty stomach, I could have finished a bowl of this.

Mrs. Eats: The fish soup reminded me of the fish soup that I used to have in hawkers in Singapore. Another comfort food that made my EATSperience in Tuan Tuan worthwhile. And the Pork Charsiu, was tender and tasty. I would love to have this bowl again and again.

Our first Tuan Tuan EATSperience was nothing but awesome! The place, the food and the service all worked together in creating a memorable EATSperience. We can’t wait to eat our personal favorites again really soon. It would be nice to try their other bestsellers too and hang out a bit longer just to enjoy the feel of the French brasserie ambiance. Four down, one to go for our Great Eatscape series. That’s it for this edition of EATSplorations! Till next time!
