Last week, I, Mr. Eats, embarked on a “Boys Night Out” EATSperience with fellow foodies at Sage Bespoke Grill in Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Yes, in a very rare occasion, I was alone to EATSperience something. No Mrs. Eats and no Baby Eats. As much as I missed their company, it was also refreshing to just simply have steak and a little bit of wine (not a good drinker) with friends on a weeknight. Sage Bespoke Grill was just lovely! The place is full of class and elegance. Paintings on the wall, lighting, furniture, and so much more. Aside from its perfect ambiance for devouring steaks, what impressed me the most about Sage was its staff. Everybody just knew what they were doing and more importantly, each and everyone of them were really warm and hospitable. They give 5-star service and so much more for their diners. It simply made me more excited to what I was about to EATSperience.
Complimentary bread and spreads before the appetizers and steaks! Crusty bread with lots of butter is always a great way to start an EATSperience. If you are a fan of bread and butter, you will surely love this. Make sure to leave room for the tasty appetizers and filling steaks though.
Out of the 15 Sage appetizers, we got the really great ones! My favorites out the 4 were the Grilled Bacon and Ceviche Scallops. Both were contrasting in flavors but equally tasty. They did a wonderful job with the thick-cut of grilled bacon! I was speechless after my first bite. The fat just melted in my mouth. The Ceviche Scallops were extremely fresh and sweet. Just the way I want my seafood to be. What a way to start my Sage Bespoke Grill EATSperience!
It’s time to have some Steak and Wine!
Chef Eric Weidmann single-handedly prepared all 3 huge cuts of perfectly grilled steak in front us. It was such a delight seeing him carve each steak carefully. With every slice he took, I knew even more that I was in for a very special evening filled with great steak. Chef Eric always ends his steak carving with a touch of Pink Himalayan Salt (for that unrefined raw salt flavor) to complement the beef.
I went straight to the trimmings! I knew my wife wouldn’t be happy to read this but it was sinfully delicious. After that sinful start, I targeted the biggest of the bunch, the Tomahawk! It did not disappoint. It was super tender and filled with beefiness. After that, I tried the beautiful Chateaubriand. It was really really good even though it did not have that fatty component. Surprisingly, I loved it. Last was the Porterhouse, it was the most balanced cut of steak on the table when it came down to the fat and meat content. Every bite had a great balance of flavors! I felt like I was in steak heaven. Thanks, Chef Eric!
The Creamed Spinach and Mac and Cheese with Bacon and Peas were my favorites in this bunch. Super rich and creamy, perfect partners for the bold-flavored steaks!
I am such a potato-loving guy and because of that, I enjoyed the Skin Filled Baked Potato and Potato Gratin in this set of sides. Both were really tasty and filling! I would not hesitate to order this again when I take my wife with me to Sage.
Believe it or not, there’s still room for Dessert!
All 4 desserts were amazing! The crepe was sweet and tart at the same time. Great palate cleanser. The tarte tatin was perfect! The apples were beautifully roasted. The Floating Island looked really lovely and tasted really good too. It was the most unique dessert of my Sage EATSperience. My most favorite one was the Banana Sticky Toffee Pudding! Every bit of ingredient was fantastic! The pudding had the right level of sweetness and the salted caramel ice cream just sealed the deal. Perfection!
Lights out! Yes, I was almost knocked out because of the beautiful cuts of steak Chef Eric prepared for us. Not only that, the appetizers, sides, and desserts were all hands down amazing. Don’t take my word for it though, try it yourself and EATSperience Sage’s sumptuous steaks and sinful desserts. Pay Sage Bespoke Grill a visit anytime soon and try their Steak and (unlimited) Wine promotion. I wasn’t able to enjoy glasses of wine since I don’t drink much. But if you do, and you love munching down steaks, you will surely love this one of a kind promotion.
